Farmington Presbyterian Manor occupies 11 beautifully landscaped acres just a few minutes west of downtown. As a not-for-profit continuing care community, Presbyterian Manor offers the flexibility to meet our residents’ needs as they evolve.

Our continuum of care encompasses independent living, assisted living, memory care/Alzheimer’s care, short-term rehabilitation, health care with skilled nursing, and respite care for all levels. Our pet-friendly accommodations range from studio and one bedroom apartments to cottages with a garage. Residents enjoy an array of amenities including restaurant-style dining, computer access and complimentary WiFi, hair salon, fitness room, business center, library, chapel and warm, inviting common areas, as well as scheduled transportation to area shopping, dining and recreational venues.

Our residents play a role in shaping the lifestyle at Farmington Presbyterian Manor. They are represented by the volunteer members of our resident council who meet monthly to discuss resident concerns and the overall function of the community. The purpose of the resident council is to provide a means for all residents to share ideas, concerns and suggestions with administration and department directors. The council underscores the residents’ responsibility for their own well-being and upholds resident rights.

Our residents are also represented by groups that focus on a specific aspect of community life. These include:

  • Dining committee meets monthly to provide input on menu items, food quality and resident satisfaction.
  • Activity council meets monthly to get feedback on community activities and offer suggestions for the upcoming month’s schedule.

Since its founding in 1949, our parent company, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, has grown to become one of the nation’s top 20 largest non-profit senior living organizations serving nearly 2,400 residents in 18 Kansas and Missouri communities.

 

History

The first Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America community in Missouri, Farmington Presbyterian Manor came about through the efforts of the Presbyterian Synods of Missouri and was originally called Presbyterian Homelife. The project was spearheaded by Dr. Fred Walker, superintendent of the Presbyterian Home for Children, with support from Grafton Lothrop, chairman of the executive committee of the Children’s Home, and the Rev. Edwin Short, chairman of the committee on schools and homes for the Presbyterian Church.

A board of trustees was formed in May 1958, with Mr. Lothrop installed as its first president.

Ground-breaking for Presbyterian Homelife was held Nov. 19, 1960, with members of the board joined by local community leaders including Glenwood Lees and Taylor Smith. By June 1961 as construction continued, residents were being accepted. The first two, Laura Waters of Farmington and Mrs. B.C. Hardesty of St. Louis, lived temporarily in the Presbyterian Children’s Home until construction could be completed. The first employee was Edith Wilber.

Farmington Presbyterian Manor officially opened in 1962. As demand soon outpaced available space, health care rooms were added in 1965, and in November 1967, several private homes were purchased to accommodate the community’s 75 residents. In 1974, more health care accommodations were added.

Over the years, the community continued to grow and modernize, responding to an increasing demand for high-quality senior living alternatives. In 1996, Farmington Presbyterian Manor added a 90-bed skilled nursing center including a secure, 20-bed memory care wing specializing in care for those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
